Are Your Steam Traps Costing You?

Do you have a program to check your steam traps? Do you have the correct trap? A faulty trap can cost you $$$.

Traps will either be "hot or cold." HOT means that the trap is working or blowing by, and COLD means that the trap is stalled or not working properly. A bad trap costs you in lost steam and either slow processing or no processing at all.

Solution: Consider a steam trap survey, or at least check the traps you have yourself on a regular basis. Replace or rebuild faulty traps. And remember the old adage, "Out of Sight, Out of Mind." Steam traps are not easy to find... Hunt them down.

Steam Trap Sizing and Selection

Drip Trap on Steam Mains: Should be sized for 2X safety factor at full differential pressure.
Primary Choice for Trap: Thermodynamic

Place trap every 200 ft. depending on type size, pressure, and piping configuration.

Steam Tracing: Typically a trap is placed approximately every 100 ft.
Primary Choice for Trap: Thermodynamic

Bucket traps and thermodynamic traps are used on critical tracing applications where no condensate can back-up.

Process Applications: 2X safety factor based on differential pressure when used to drain a heat exchanger being supplied by a modulating control valve using less than 30 PSIG steam pressure. Trap must handle full load at 1/2 PSI differential pressure.

When used to drain a heat exchanger being supplied by a modulating control valve using steam pressure greater than 30 PSIG use 2.5X safety factor at fulI differential pressure.
Primary Choice for Trap: Float & Thermodynamic

Call us for all of your steam trap needs. We carry a large selection of brands such as Watson McDaniel, Armstrong, Spirax Sarco, TLV, and many more.
